In Phoenix, Arizona, pink haired-19-year-old mother, Catalina Clouser decided to smoke marijuana with her friends and boyfriend at a park in the evening. The boyfriend was later arrested on suspicious of aggravated DUI during their trip to the store to get beer, with Clouser’s 5-week-old baby in the car.
Upset over the incident, Clouser visited a friend to continue smoking two additional bowls of marijuana. She left the home around midnight and apparently put the baby on the roof of the car, forgetting he was there, and drove off.
The baby, who was thankfully unharmed, fell off the car into the middle of an intersection. Leilani Gerlach, who discovered the child, said that he remained strapped safely to his car seat, which encountered minimal damage. The homeowner from across the intersection notified police,
“We were both rolling our eyes in astonishment that someone could forget their baby,” Gerlach said, “The car seat was turned to the side so anyone passing by wouldn’t be able to tell there was an actual baby inside. Thank god they stopped.”
After police arrived, two people who identified themselves as a friend of Clouser’s friend and boyfriend, confirmed that the baby was hers.
“She put the baby on the top of the car, evidently to get in it. She didn’t realize she hadn’t put the baby inside and she drove off,” said Officer James Holmes with the Phoenix Police.
“I think that perhaps she got where she was going and realized that she did not have the baby in the car.” a police source added.
“There was damage to the car seat, it was scraped but there was no damage to the child.”
The baby is now in custody of Child Protective Services and Catalina Clouser is being charged with aggravated DUI and child abuse.
